Cinnabon(s)I am convinced that the Muses and the Graces never thought of having breakfast anywhere but in bed. Tuesday, February 16, 1999
Something nice that happens every week, and gives me a lift when I remember it as I'm driving to work: another team that works in this building has declared Tuesday to be "Cinnabon" Tuesday. They set out several boxes worth in their build lab Tuesday morning, and they send out email to the whole building announcing their availability! (I think the first few times they also had mimosa Tuesday, but I don't recall seeing any champagne or orange juice this morning.) The email also has a link to their webcam, so you can check and see if any cinnabons -- or is it cinnabon in the plural, too, like sheep? -- and see if any pastries are left. I never have this problem, since I get to work pretty early. But it's still a cool feature! My own team serves bagels and cream cheese (and apparently some upscale coffee) on Friday mornings, and I appreciate it, but it's just not as special as cinnabon!
In my quest for non-lackadaisicalness, I did manage to get the mail out of my mailbox and find the form that I must mail to my agency tomorrow, so that they'll continue to take my part of the medical insurance payments out of my earnings in pre-tax dollars. I processed the rest of the mail, too, as far as tossing out the junk mail directly into the recycling goes. I did some minor picking up of random books and crap that were deposited around on the kitchen floor, put some canned food away in the cupboard, and tried several times to get the little soap pump unclogged, the one that's part of the sink. It's clogged, because it's been too darn long since I used it and the soap is congealed inside! Oh, well, doing a few things is better than doing nothing.
I went back to the Washington Dance Club, after missing this event for a few weeks. I got there right as it was changing over from ballroom dance studio to swing dance space. My first dance was with Chris. Sweet! It was one of those peak flow experiences, when the music and the dancers and the moment all come together in harmony. I had a blast! I was pleased when several folks asked me where I'd been the past week or so; it's good to be missed. There was a good crowd, and I danced with almost everyone that I wanted to. I even got asked to dance a few times, rather than me having to ask people every time. I was talking about this with a dance buddy. I asked her how her evening was going, and she said she hadn't danced that much. She's sick, she said, of having to ask leads to dance all the time, so she wasn't asking anyone, but waiting to be asked! I can sympathize -- leads, especially good ones, can be at a premium some nights. That's one reason I like to dance with new people and beginners. I'm sowing the seeds for future partners who will be fun to dance with and ask me to dance! My friend Jon Newman was there, so we danced several times. I'm glad he's keeping up with the dancing, even though he's busy at work. |
