One year ago: Vernal
I was piping up on diary-l today, which I usually don't do. A journaler decided to stop her journal, and there was some discussion about it. Gabby didn't like my comparison between a journal stopping, and a TV show going off the air. I wonder which other journalers get mail from people telling them how to live. This seems to be a problem for some, but then she was complaining about how the people on her mailing list don't give her any interaction or appreciation. I know I don't get much problem email, as far as I recall! Feel free to give me advice; I know I hand out enough of it! But I don't take it personally when people don't follow my directives, that is, I mean, suggestions.
In other online interaction, Columbine was talking about getting rid of stuff, so I shared some of the good ideas about decluttering that I've been getting from the alt.recovery.clutter newsgroup. I find it reassuring to read about people who have much messier homes than I have! I forgot to talk about ferrets with her (one appeared in her dream). I don't think ferrets are really the greatest pets; there is still a lot of weasel in them! An old housemate's boyfriend had them, and when they bite, they tend to not let go! I think cats are preferrable, unless you are in the business of using the ferrets for hunting rats.
I shared info about the journals list with Rick "Diary Thing" McGinnis. Ha! I just looked over his photography portfolio, and literally said "oo!" when I saw the image of Alan Rickman, my fave.

Barring terrible bad luck, there will be a bit of a celebration tomorrow at work. Last week when I was having lunch with a group of programmer-teammates, I asked them if they had any ideas on fun things to do at such an event. Throwing water or cake around, or squirting people with stuff, just isn't my idea of a celebration! And I don't usually drink alcohol since it makes me sneeze, annoying those around me. So these gatherings aren't my idea of a grand time, though I do appreciate the effort and expense that goes into putting them on. There is supposed to be a party Wednesday evening, as well, but I think that might be for full-time employees only. I know I haven't gotten any email about it, anyway! I must remember to ask my manager tomorrow.

As I said yesterday, I was inspired for this month's design by the magazine I bought, called Style 1900, subtitled "The Quarterly Journal of the Arts & Crafts Movement." The Craftsman style is big in Seattle; there are a lot of houses that date from that period. I searched the web and found an Arts & Crafts dingbat font by Matthew Jalbert, and used the Chelsea Studio font that comes from the Scriptorium. The overall template is from May 1998, and the picture of me I took on Valentine's Day. (I really like the large version!)
Ceej was talking about a dingbat artist in an entry posted today. Ann Stretton was the creator of the dingbats I used last month (a free sample she posted on a dingbat site). Her site is quite amazing, and the jewel-ized squiggles and blobs are extremely enticing!
