Honest criticism means nothing: what one wants is unrestrained passion, fire for fire.

What a grand evening!

My friend Jane Hawkins was turning 48, so she invited whoever wanted to, to go to dinner at I (heart) Sushi, then on to see Luke McGuff, Wally Glenn, and other Fremonsters in "Cirque du Flambé.

Since parking is tight in the Eastlake neighborhood where the restaurant is, I decided to take the bus. The web is wonderful! If I'd had to telephone to find out which bus to take, I wouldn't have bothered! It was a nice dinner. Deb Notkin and Alan Bostick were visiting from the Bay area, and I chatted mostly with Deb, Vonda, and Kate during the meal. Kate said, (rough paraphrase) "Since I read your journal, I can't just say, 'What's new with you?' to get the conversation going." But I said that since I don't write all the details about everything, there are surely topics we could enlarge on. Then I talked about a few things that have happened lately.

The food was very good. Jane says she likes it best of all the sushi in Seattle, and Jon Singer (he was there) approves it, too. I had the "C" combo, and some small flame-broiled clams. It didn't seem right to just get the same kinds of sushi I've had before; I wanted to try something new. The dessert was new to me, also: Tempura ginger ice cream! This was special -- hot and crispy on the outside, cool and gingery on the inside.

I rode back to Capitol Hill with Vonda, Deb and Alan, giving directions although Vonda has lived around here all her life. She's just not that familiar with Eastlake and Capitol Hill, I guess! We parked in the garage associated with the Seattle Central Community College, then walked the few blocks to the empty parking lot where the circus was going to take place.

It was a great show! Many of the acts were ones I'd seen at Trolloween, but not having to walk all over the place between acts was a good thing. The performers had all been working on their performance and clowning skills since last fall, too! And I had an easier time hearing them (not that dialog was the most important part, but it helped in some of the more involved classic clown skits).

Wally will probably post some of the pictures I took on the cirque site. The crowd loved "Pyro Boy". He had the primo finale spot on the bill. Some of them were there just to see him, judging by the cries of "Pyro Boy! Pyro Boy!" that were heard from the beginning.

There are more fire circus performances coming up, so maybe I'll get the chance to see the show again.
