When written in Chinese the word crisis is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity.

One year ago: Last Class

No change in the situation with Jack's fifteen-year-old daughter -- she's still on the run. She did speak with Jack on the phone, though. Jack will go down to Olympia tomorrow, to see his other daughter, confer with his exwife, and maybe talk to the police down there.

After two hellish days early in the week, work settled down and our team got our website functioning with the others that are all making a move to a new cluster Tuesday. I didn't think it would ever work! And we depend on these other teams for the structure and navigation of the site. But if there are delays or problems, they won't be due to us, and that was my main concern. So today was calm, with time to take care of a few of my other tasks, and even time to delete some mail so I won't be getting messages from the server about exceeding my quota all the time.

I haven't danced since last Sunday! I missed class on Tuesday because I worked past the time it started, and I was too tired to go to the Washington Dance Club. Wednesday I missed class and dancing at the Century Ballroom because I was with Jack. Thursday I was too tired to go over to the Russian Center. Tonight I was with Jack. I think my feet needed a break, but I'll be happy to get back on the floor sometime this weekend.

I was happy, earlier this week, to see some new writing from Alan Heinovision. But now he's taken everything down again, and substituted a picture of himself and his most recent sweetie for every page. What a volatile guy! But he's been gone before and come back, so the odds are that he'll be writing again sometime.

I'm glad Jack feels able to share his problems with me. I'm so concerned for his daughter and him, and there isn't much I can do except be nearby, listen to him, and hug him. He says that's what he needs from me now. It's a tough job to be a parent. He's been very dedicated. Many of his decisions have been for the benefit of his daughters. He'd be living a very different life if he weren't a dad!
