One year ago: Movies and Books
Be sure and read my weekend report, as I dance into the world of the Future.

The first thing at work this morning -- a reorganization! You might have seen a news item or two about this. It probably won't affect me much. There was a live netcast of Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates, which I watched part of, and according Steve this isn't just one of those random reorgs du jour. Netcasts are a good way to experience presentations, speeches, or technology reviews -- better than being there, really!. I can listen with half an ear, then pay more attention if something interesting is said. In the mean time, I get my work done! The Melissa virus is much in the news, and apparently has appeared internally, but I haven't seen a copy yet.
We had a last minute glitch in the web-site move to a new cluster -- missed communication, and I should have been more proactive for digging for the info we needed. I was embarrassed, irritated, and guilty, by turns. The dev I was working with tried to tell me that it wasn't my fault, but it was, at least partially. Someone else knew the information I needed to know, but how could that person know that they needed to tell me? Another topic for the post-mortem meeting, I guess. We figured out another way to make the webpages work, so we won't be broken tomorrow, but I was still bummed.

Because we were so busy during the day, I never made my way over to the cafeteria, so I was hungry when I got home. There was nothing, nothing, in the canned food that appealed to me. Why ever did I buy some of this stuff? But finally I pulled out various sorts of beans, and some salsa, and poured them all into the crockpot, to meld into a mexican-flavor soup. But I was still too hungry to wait for that, so I did walk to the grocery store after all and got artichoke-jalapeño dip and the big Wheat Thins to munch on. There's been a strange trend the past few years, of making foods different sizes than they were ever meant to be. Ritz bits, tiny saltines, tiny BBs of Hershey's chocolate, and now the extra big Cheese Nips and Wheat Thins. Now, if I can only remember to put the bean soup in the refrigerator! I did convince myself to put the eight-year-old can of collard greens in the trash. I know I'm never going to want to eat that.

I sent this link to Jack earlier in the day: The Star Wars Pants page. I don't know why these strike me as funny, but they do. I think it's the repetition. Of course, the word "pants" is funny, in and of itself. That's why Letterman picked "Worldwide Pants" as the name of his production company.
I found the link on the memepool, home of cool weirdness. Check it out!

Lance updated, so maybe he's back on a trend of more frequent writing. I like it that I've been reading him since before he got his domain! In this episode, he posts a piece written by his mother, in part to make up for forgetting her birthday.
