NurturingAs a cure for the cold, take your toddy to bed, put one bowler hat at the foot, and drink until you see two.
Thursday, April 15,
I completed my taxes Wednesday at work. For the first time, I had to fill out a Form 1040! I had dividend income that was over the 1040A limit, and one little 1099-B form. (I'm still not certain that I handled that the correct way, but the amount was so small that I doubt it changed the tax amount.) It was really handy for me to be able to access the IRS website for the extra forms and instructions I needed. In the evening, I went over to Jack's house. He has a bad cold, poor guy! And felt even worse because he was out of cough syrup and cough drops and the popsicles he likes. When I called him beforehand, I asked if there was anything I should get at the store on my way, but I think he was feeling so bad that he couldn't think of what he needed, or else he thought that he'd feel ok enough to go to the store with me. Well, that didn't happen. He made a short list after I arrived, and went to soak in the bath while I drove back to the shopping center. To the meds list, I added some Azteca Chicken, Rice and Jalapeno Soup, Lindoro chocolate, and Hawaii's Own juice drink concentrate. When I got home I realized why that last item was so cheap! There is hardly any fruit juice in it at all! So we had a quiet evening, with me forcing fluids on Jack all the time. He didn't mind me doing the caregiver stuff. We watched "Law and Order," a favorite series of his. I've seen this several times now, and I think that the success of it depends on the appeal of the actors. Their characters as written are merely sketched in, with most of the episode time going to the police and courtroom procedural story of the week. That's probably why they've been able to go through so many cast changes on the show with no harm done to the ratings. I think Jack and I are lucky to know each other. I can't think that there are many women who would take it the right way if a man, while cuddling late at night, started talking about injecting elements into the Document Object Model!
I came home and took a rest in the late afternoon. The weather has been ideal the past few days, with balmy breezes and all! But these naps do take away from the time I mean to spend getting things done around my place, like laundry and taking out the trash! I was awakened by a disturbing phone call from my brother. At first, he was just asking how I was doing, and saying that school was going well. Then he asked how my sister M--- was doing, then he went into a lot of stuff about how he felt that she and my brother-in-law were badmouthing him around town! Creepy! He seemed especially concerned that they were talking him down to a woman that he likes, and spreading rumors that he's not straight. This is really irrational, which concerns me a lot. I still wish he hadn't moved here. I will call this woman on Monday, though, since he asked me to. |
