Happy Birthday, Jack

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it.... It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.

One year ago: More Clothes
Two years ago: Summer to Your Heart

I stayed home from work today -- backache and cramps, ouch! My period didn't give me much trouble when I was younger, but now the first day is no fun a-tall. But I put the time to use, doing laundry and continuing my archeological dig in my bedroom. I'd say I'm about seventy percent there! I need to finish clearing off the floor, and then remove a bookcase and small filing cabinet that are near the door. Then I'll actually have room to bring in another bedstead, and buy a new, big mattress. I hope this will work, and fit in the room the way I've conceived it!

Jack worked on his birthday last year, he told me at the time in email, and he worked today up in Bellingham. When I spoke to him on the phone, he was standing outside his car, waiting for the locksmith (again!). The stress levels he is under right now have contributed to his locking his keys in his car recently, more than once. But he still had plans to go get himself a nice steak dinner, and to buy himself something fun at Costco.

Jack Bell at Thanksgiving (click for larger version)I know that I rarely write an entry without mentioning Jack. He's a big part of my life now! But it's surprising how many of his good qualities were evident to me very soon. He invited me to join an outing with his daughters in between our first date and second date. (I counted that as our 1.5 date.) I got to see him acting as a father that day, and I liked what I saw. I revealed on Valentines' Day how I kissed him in the parking lot on our first date -- the temptation was irresistable.

He'd been fine with me basically arranging the whole weekend, and you know nothing pleases me more than having my own way. We enjoy a lot of the same things, and have fun just being together, which was evident that early.

One of the good things about his move to Bellingham is that he'll be able to get out in the woods more often. He's been prodding me to get some better walking shoes or light hiking boots, so he'll feel more comfortable about taking me along with him.

Jack certainly doesn't take himself too seriously! In the lefthand picture below, he's dressed up in a great kilt for Halloween. On the right, he's dancing with me! He's gone through a few beginning dance classes to please me, and has looked like he's enjoying himself, though he confessed to feeling awkward and embarrassed afterwards.

I just wish that circumstances would allow me to have a week to celebrate his birthday, like Pamie is doing for Eric. He certainly deserves it, and more! So happy birthday, sweetie!
