It is as absurd to argue men, as to torture them, into believing. |

Two years ago: The Ringing Grooves of Change
I went to Jon Newman's surprise birthday party tonight, in a nice old garden apartment complex in Madison Park. It was a fun gathering! I'd met some of the people before, whether swing dancing, or last year at the Seinfeld gathering. Jon is Activity Guy, so he had friends there from work, from swing dancing (me), from a Jewish hiking group (the majority) and from the film festival (Steve and me again).
It was overcast, cool, and damp, so we stayed inside most of the time, except for the folks supervising the grill. I talked to some people, but I was content being quiet and listening to the chatter from others for good portions of the party. Steve, a film festival buddy, talked very entertainingly about his hobby of stereo photography (he makes his own viewmaster images) and his collection of old fire hydrants from all over which occupies his back yard. He does slightly alarm some of the folks he talks to, though, because if they express interest in the subject he's talking about, he starts inviting them over so he can show them the album of photos, or the yard full of fireplugs. They were interested, but not quite that interested.
Jon wasn't quite surprised, since he spied someone arriving before he did and that blew the gaff. But he enjoyed the party anyway, I think! He's still just a pup to me, even if he is in his mid-thirties now.

A reader asked me today if I keep a second, secret journal. "Where do you keep the nasty, self serving or bitchy thoughts that you know will make others, less honest than yourself, want to snub you? Or do you just not have those thoughts?" I told him that I don't have a secret journal, though I know of authors that do that, or put the really sensitive material in email-only entries. When I've had stuff that I didn't want the whole world to know, I have written it directly to friends, from time to time, but not often. I told zir that if we meet in real life (likely, since this person is local) zie will have to tell me if I show a bitchy side that doesn't appear here very often.
It's the year anniversary of Darren Holloway stopping his Lifelog, but he is still updating his site semi-regularly. He just posted an account of his trip down to the dance camp at Catalina. Darren was an accomplished ballroom dancer before he met me, but I like to think I introduced him to the Lindy Hop.

Last month I had my design all ready for this month, but not this time! I'll have to work on it tomorrow evening.
