Back in Class

I'm not a teacher: only a fellow-traveller of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead - ahead of myself as well as you.

Tonight I started dance class again, through the Savoy Swing club. I'd gotten email from a board member last night, inviting me to volunteer for the class that precedes the class I actually signed up for. "Essentials: Spins and Turns" is lead-heavy, so I arrived at seven o'clock and took the class, so guys wouldn't have to sit out without a partner. The class will do me good, I'm sure. Spinning is an area I've always had to work on!

I was a bit shocked at some of the people who, having signed up for the earlier class (I'd rate the difficulty as the beginning of the Intermediate level), were also in the second class, which was supposed to be Intermediate/Advanced! I hope they don't hold the class back. (I hope I don't hold the class back!)

Once again, I can tell that I might have a problem with giving partners unwanted feedback, especially in the earlier class, since I'm a more experienced dancer than most in that class. I'm not the teacher, after all! So I really need to watch out for this.

I'd wanted to go to the Washington Dance Club afterwards, but I was really too tired. I can tell I've been dancing less than usual, and I haven't been in class for a while. The layoff makes itself felt in my feet.

I send Jack web links fairly often during the day, when I see one that I think would interest him. I'm surprised sometimes at which ones draw extended responses!

This report on an Interactive Storytelling conference (found via Robot Wisdom) reminded me of a project Jack had several years back, an online world. He wrote back, explicating the differences between what they were pontificating about, and what he'd had in mind.

I also sent him a pointer to some recommendations for tools that will make weblog creation easier, since creating such tools is a project he wants to work on soon.
