Zen Lindy

Shogen asked: "Why does the enlightened man not stand on his feet and explain himself?"
And he also said: "It is not necessary for speech to come from the tongue."

Two years ago: The Submerged Truth

Tonight in Intermediate/Advanced Lindy hop class, we did an exercise where the follow danced with her eyes closed. I've done that before and liked it; you really have to be sensitive to what the lead is communicating. Then we did it with the lead having his eyes closed, which was a new variation to me.

Then we danced with both people having their eyes closed! This might seem dangerous, but only five couples danced at once, so there was plenty of room.

The only thing that bugged me tonight was two couples, in the earlier class where I'm volunteering to even up the numbers, who didn't want to rotate partners. I don't mind them being so dopey (that's a good way to learn your partner's bad habits, though!) but they were dancing in the circle with the rest of the class, and slowed up the rotation as people had to figure out that they weren't participating. So I spoke to one of the instructors at the end of the evening, and he said he'd speak to them next time, and asked me to remind him about it.

I'm getting a crown put on tomorrow morning. I had one put on last October, and the experience wasn't too bad. I'm hoping to go into work afterwards, but not if I feel too terrible.

I found Fishstick via Benicetobears. I like her writing, but there are only a few pieces here -- I'm used to the streaming abundance of journals. I especially liked the goodwill shopping tips! I like visiting our local Goodwill store. Sometimes I go in to a Costco-like trance there, wandering around, pushing my cart.
