Mystery Men

A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other.

Two years ago: Road Duel

Two years ago I was spending the night up in the mountains, watching the meteors with Vonda, Kate and Glenn. Sleep in an open field, wake up covered with dew!

We had some extra scurrying around at work today, getting ready for a conference tomorrow, the Money Show. We took off to the Seattle Convention Center in the afternoon, to hang our new sign at the booth and check out the space. Tomorrow I won't even have to drive to Bellevue; I'll just take the bus downtown.

In honor of the show (but we'll really be doing more info gathering than trying to get publicity for the site), we debuted a new type of chart for the site. I was familiar with bar charts and line charts before starting this job, but the Point and Figure chart was new to me. It's fun to play with! And the page explaining the chart is the first bit of writing by me that has been posted on the site, so far.

I thought we'd have to work late into the evening to get all this taken care of, but it went more smoothly than any of us thought. Even the web cards (that I'd suggested ordering, and they did look cool when delivered) went through the printer smoothly. We printed site info on the blank backs.

I ate dinner nearby with Chip and his family, then walked to the Bellevue Galleria for a movie. This was the first time I'd been to this new quasi-mall. It's three stories tall, but for some reason there isn't any inside to it; the navigation section (I have been looking at too many web sites!) is stairs and escalators, exposed to the weather. Fine now, but I don't think this will be too great in the winter.

When I got to the third level, I was startled to see that Hooters is sharing it with the theater! I've never been close to that establishment before, just heard tell of it. That must have been where the weasely office guys were going, who were talking too loudly on the escalator ahead of me.

I'd orginally planned on seeing American Pie, but dinner had taken a bit too long and I'd missed the showtime. Instead I was able to see Mystery Men! I knew I would like this, and I did.

I'm sorry I missed the recent Ben Stiller Show marathon on the Comedy Channel. I remember that show from the early days of the Fox network, and I really like his sense of humor. He's great in this, as is the rest of the cast. There's an abundance of jokes, so if you don't like one, you'll like the next. I was especially fond of the chickens!

The light bulb burnt out in the projector, just as the big action scene in the climax was happening. The screen went dark, but the sound continued on! After a moment, I went and asked the concession guy to signal the projectionist. (It's not easy for one non-union projectionist to monitor 15 theaters at once!) They were able to replace the bulb and rewind the film a bit, so we were able to proceed to the end, and we got an "emergency ticket" to use at some other show.
