Catching Up

If the power to do hard work is not a skill, it's the best possible substitute for it.

Two years ago: A Most Vehement Flame

I've been trying to do some cleaning up and decluttering every night this week, because in a week and a half, I'm having guests! The Seattle Lindy Exchange is happening, and I'm hosting. Coincidentally, Pamie, Beth and Kymm are all making better housekeeping efforts, too (or at least stewing and worrying about it).

I've made progress in the kitchen, which was a disaster area because I moved the cookbooks out of my bedroom and put them on the kitchen counter, along with a lot of stuff that used to be top of my printer. When I got home tonight and opened a cupboard to get the dried parsley, M*THS flew out! That's what we used to call them on the knitlist. So even though a neat and tidy spice cabinet won't impact my guests much, I was impelled to get the stepstool, trash can, sponge, and cleaning spray immediately, and fell to triaging. I threw away the stuff that was infected, along with various food items that it's clear I'm never going to feel like cooking or eating. Begone with them! I also ran the dishwasher.

I did some digging and sorting in a corner of my dining room -- toys and cacophony stuff into a plastic container, costume things together. It ended up not looking too much different than when I started, but it's a bit more organized. I found a bunch of slinkies, all ready for the next time we do a Spring Fling.

This incident on the highway is why my coworker was late to work on Wednesday morning. Traffic was blocked for quite a while, and the power was turned off in some sections in town. The climber's explanation that she was protesting "discrimination against women and laws that allow men to take their shirts off but not women" seems pretty bogus to me. Kudos for the fire-breathing artistry, though!

In other work news, we've added an "affiliate" program at StockCharts.com. It's not one of the ones where you get money for using it, or anything, but you can add code to your pages to let users look up a stock and see a line chart, bar chart, or Point and Figure chart (my favorite!). I added the code to my home page. Go try it out, ok?

I had a blast at the Century Ballroom Wednesday night! I was in the right mood for dancing, and even got asked to dance a good percentage of the time, rather than having to do all the asking. My buddy Bemjamin Solomon was back in town, after traveling all over Europe for the summer. When he and Greg Heasley and Alex Chung dance with each other, sometimes it looks more like lindy fu than social dancing. They challenge each other, leading complicated improvisations and footwork. It's incredible to watch!
