Making ProgressPermanence, perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities: It is this, that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak. Monday, September 13, 1999
In my quest to make this apartment livable (for a weekend) for four women instead of one by this Friday (I'm hosting for the Lindy Exchange), I stopped at the storage place on the way home from work and bought book cartons, a tape gun, and tape. The woman working there threw in the tape for free, which was a good move for customer satisfaction! I bought fifteen cartons, but only brought in three tonight. I packed them with books, after struggling with the fancy tape gun. I should have made that woman show me how to work it; it wasn't obvious to me which way the tape should go! The books are presently in medium-sized plastic trash bags in the dining room and living room, because I've already been through a round of sorting on them when I was doing a bedroom clear-out several weeks ago and didn't have boxes for them then. They are the books that were keepers among those books that had previously been on my bedroom floor. A purge of the full bookshelves in my bedroom, at a later date, will make room for most of them, I think. But I know I won't do that before my deadline, so boxed books, rather than bagged, will be easier to stack and shift. After I filled my three cartons, I grabbed a few boxes of papers and detritus and sorted them, throwing away good chunks -- old bills that are now paid, empty envelopes, nasty dried-out rubber stamps that I never did like. But I kept some old photos from the eighties, and a job evaluation from the job I had then; I always was pleased by the praise that manager gave me in my menial job. Tomorrow night I'll do more! and spend less time online, now that I'm caught up on journal reading after my weekend away.
Al of Nova Notes got turned on to weblogs in tonight's entry. I do think that there's a continuum between strict link lists with no comment, and journals that are all comment and personal stuff. You could do a chart and place various blogs along it. My pitas page would be mostly links, with just a few words from me about each one; Lemonyellow has a few links interspersed among the enigmatic ruminations. There are people using the pitas format for their personal journals now. I'm enjoying the whole thing! |
