Home from Orycon
I have found out that there ain't no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.

I had breakfast with Lucy and Vicki Jean this morning, in the coffee garden in the convention hotel. I think I ate the majority of my meals there -- they smartened up and offered a buffet which was popular with con members. We had a grand time, talking about you, and you, and you! And our own jobs and lives.
Lucy said (my paraphrase) "I like Jack. He didn't mind it when I told him his joke wasn't funny."

Jack and I sat in the Riverview ballroom, waiting for the art auction to start. I wasn't feeling so great, so I just leaned over and rested my head on his shoulder. I didn't want to buy anything, so after a few minutes I went upstairs for the Guest of Honor interview with Nicola Griffith. She's had an interesting life: middle-class British Catholic girlhood, running off to live on her own in Leeds (lots of anti-gay prejudice in that town), then becoming a writer, moving to Atlanta, then off to Seattle. I'd like to have her books on tape, read by herself -- her voice is delightful!
I spent some time relaxing in the fan lounge, then it was time to go. We had Don riding with us, one of the Bellingham crowd. Things went smoothly until we got to Olympia.
The mini-crisis in Olympia: Jack's daughter A----- had offered a ride to a boy who also had one parent in Bellingham and one in Olympia. Unfortunately, he wasn't at the trailer ready to go, but at a grocery store some miles away. A--- immediately began shrieking and tantruming, which put Jack all on end. We did go pick the boy up, and drove north.

Jack dropped me off and I took it easy for the rest of the evening. A nice, busy weekend! I did enjoy going to the con with Jack.
