Chatting

There is nothing that exasperates people more than a display of superior ability or brilliance in conversation. They seem pleased at the time, but their envy makes them curse the conversationalist in their heart.

Since the Century Ballroom was having a concert, instead of the normal Wednesday night dance, my buddy Earl decided to have a party.

I stuck around work until dinner time, then stopped off at Costco. It was raining hard, and of course my shoes leak if I step into the smallest puddle. Time for a new pair! But my mission at Costco was to get some candy to hand out at this weekend's santa rampage. They didn't have the bulk peppermints I wanted, but I did get Hershey's Kisses and a large bag of mixed hard candy. I was pleased with myself when I also remembered to get the salt-and-pepper potato chips that I like. Around here, Costco is the only place to get them.

I stopped for food at MacDonalds. The girl working the counter must have been on her first night! Or maybe she was just naturally taking things at an incredibly slow pace. MacDonalds now has the super-super-size combo meals. What I don't like: they increase the portion of fries -- a good thing. But they increase the size of the drink also, so that it's much bigger than most humans could consume in one sitting (or maybe even one day)! If I'm going to get a double-big-gulp-sized Diet Coke, they should provide a free drink holder for my car.

I've been to Earl's house before, at a party last winter. I had a great time, this time, too! He's got a 14-week puppy, a cute golden lab named Brody. Brody is still at the mouthing stage, but only because he wants to investigate everything. I hope Earl takes him to obedience school and establishes proper dominance!

I laughed when Steve Holt, Steve Steiner and I all ended up in the kitchen, with Steve Holt telling us about Critical Path project management. It was geeky of us, but it was interesting.

I spent a good portion of the evening in the TV room, watching a video of the Seattle Lindy Exchange with some other folks. It was especially interesting to see the events that I'd been too tired for at the time, like the late night dancing. Jeanine, one of the women who stayed with me that weekend, really shone on the tape! I knew she was a good dancer, but it was very educational to watch her in action.

Anita's Chosen Avatar in MS Comic ChatTonight Jack and I tried Microsoft Comic chat as a way to communicate. It worked, once I found the correct server. We are trying to figure out how this weekend will go, with the Santa Rampage happening, Jack's daughter H---- coming to see him, and the stuff he wants to take care of at his place. I got all the parts of my costume and Santa equipment out, and have them ready to put on when I get home from work tomorrow. It will be an interesting, busy weekend! (This picture is from September 11, 1998, when I was talking about JerkCity. That site is an Web-comic based on the R-rated chats a crew of folks have, using Comic Chat as the picture generator. I just wish they had more female characters.)

I see it was two years ago that I first spoke about putting a personal ad up on yahoo. I think this project worked out well for me! Actually, I recommend yahoo for anyone who wants to go the personal ad route. It's free, it can be as anonymous as you want it to be, and the fact that the respondents have to write to you is a good filter -- they have to put some effort into it.
