The connections between and among women are the most feared, the most problematic, and the most potentially transforming force on the planet.

Two years ago: Making a Hit

First order of business this morning: getting my teeth cleaned. I like having the first appointment of the day, since I'm on an early schedule anyway. That way, I can still get to work at a reasonable time. I managed to avoid any coughing fits until the hygenist was almost finished. She didn't notice any problems. The most painful part was her poking, prodding and scraping at the back, where cement from a crown needed to be removed. I hope that now that it's gone, my gums will get less tender back there and I'll be able to do a better job flossing. At these prices, I do want to take good care of this dental work!

I called the billing department at my ISP this morning. Yes, my login had been disabled because I needed to pay some money -- more than I had realized that I owed them! But fortunately I have the money (it's just getting the check in the mail that seems to be beyond me), so I drove over there mid-morning. Their office is in downtown Bellevue, only a few blocks from our former place! I wrote a check and handed it over.

On the way back, I stopped at Larry's Market, which is a fancy grocery store. I stocked up on more frozen food for work lunches, and got a Monterey quiche for feasting on right away.

In the background, ever since we moved into these new offices: would they manage to get our T1 line switched from Chip's house to our present location before Chip left on vacation? This was a complicated interaction between two phone companies and an internet provider.

Finally, today, we got the last i dotted and t crossed, the last worker had turned a switch, changed a wire, and run a test. Chip and M--- jumped into the SUV and drove the half mile to Chip's house, where our server had lived until now. They grabbed up all the machines and equipment and drove back. Thank heaven there wasn't an accident on the way! Back-up strategies usually don't take such an eventuality into account! Our site was off the air during the interval, until the new T1 would be live.

I wanted to stick around for the build process; M--- and I will be handling it during Chip's trip to Florida, and my illness had meant that I hadn't stuck around any night this week to be checked out on the latest tweaks. But it took a while to get the router and server and switches all talking to each other. When Chip came out of the server room and found me seated at the conference table, eyes closed, with my head propped on my hand, he urged me to take off. He and M--- would handle it. I felt bad enough that I complied.

Though my ISP had warned that it might take a while for my login to be turned on (because so many folks had been turned off, yesterday), I was annoyed to find that I was still turned off when I got home! So I spent the evening watching "Must see TV," then fell into bed.

Sleeping with this cold is ghastly. I wake up several times during the night, coughing, sore throat, uncomfortable generally. I tell myself it's getting better each night, but I don't know if that's true!
