Out to LunchFamily jokes, though rightly cursed by strangers, are the bond that keeps most families alive.

Last year, I spent the week between Christmas and New Years at a swing dance camp. What a great time! But this year, the facility had already been booked by new-age millennialists, so we'll have to wait a whole year for Swing Out Northwest to happen again. Chip got back from vacation yesterday, and spent a good portion of the day wrestling with networking issues. We'd just had the T-1 line installed here at the end of the day before he left! So there were odds and ends concerning firewall issues, moving our proxy machine into the server room, and other stuff that still needed to be dealt with. I laughed when M---, Chip, and I arrived at the restaurant where we were having lunch. "This isn't a company-sponsored lunch, by the way," Chip said. I didn't mind, though it was a fancier place than I'd have chosen to go to on my own. I had smoked chicken, mushrooms, and pasta shells, in a balsamic vinegar and cream sauce. Delicious! and the smoked chicken didn't taste like hot dogs, which I've encountered before.
My sister M----- was child-free today, so she suggested she should come out to my office and we'd go to lunch. Sounded great to me! So she overcame the incorrect directions I gave her, and drove out. When I saw her car drive down to the other end of the building, I thought I'd messed up on that part of the directions, too! So I scurried out to the front door of the building. But she'd seen my car, driven around the building, and was already in the office talking to my coworkers by the time I walked back. We drove to Redmond Town Center (she hadn't been there before) and had a good lunch at the Thai Ginger restaurant. They have those good wide rice noodles there, which I especially enjoyed. We got caught up on stuff, and she told me about some exciting changes that she might be making.
I'd wanted to go dancing both last night and tonight, but didn't manage either. I regretted tonight especially, because this was the last night of swing dancing at the Washington Dance Club, which I've enjoyed going to in the past. Instead I got into bed early, both nights! Backache, cramps and a general malaise just made me extra tired. Tonight I even used that percussion massager (with heat) that Jack gave me for Christmas, applied to my back and thighs. Not bad! My bed is feeling so good to me on these cool evenings -- smooth sheets, the down comforter, plenty of pillows. |
