Spilled ScentI am now quite cured of seeking pleasure in society, be it country or town. A sensible man ought to find sufficient company in himself.

A year ago was a very good day at Swing Out Northwest, the dance camp I attended last year. I notice that I took the evening off, staying in my room and reading rather than going to the evening dance. See, I am introverted, despite appearances, and need a certain amount of quiet time to recharge my batteries. That's one reason I spent the extra bit of money to have a private room.
At work, we spent some time struggling with Visual Source Safe and an upgrade to Homesite. Finally Chip and I determined that we didn't need to source-control the HTML files for our site at this time, though M---, our Java dev, will be using VSS for his stuff. I do think the 4.5 upgrade for Homesite is worth getting, though! I'm finally able to assign keyboard shortcuts to the "snippets," which I could never get to work in the previous version. So now I can get the same functionality with Homesite that I get with Derekware HTML Author at home! (That's the orphaned html editor I use, which has a good custom menu feature.) This is handy for having different css classes assigned to different sorts of paragraphs, for example, or for inserting the row of asterisks that I use for a divider. Homesite also seems to open up in the correct directory when I right-click on a file and select "Edit in Homesite," which was broken before for me. I spent most of the day today going through files with a fine-tooth comb and cleaning up various little glitches that have accumulated. That's a task that suits me, with my focus on detail. Chip and M--- went shopping -- soon we will have satellite tv in the office, to watch the financial news channels when we need to. Maybe we'll get to have other video events, too!
After I parked in my neighborhood, I walked the few blocks over to the Madison Market, new home for the Community Co-op. I'm really very fond of the pizza bagels from Pike St. Bagels that they have there, and fortunately there were two left. I also picked up some epsom salts, since both my friend Kate and Liralen seem to think they are effective in a soaking bath. I'd still like to see a controlled study... maybe just soak one foot in salts, and see if it's less sore than the other soaked in hot water only? Although I still have a good amount of scented oils, most of them aren't what I want to be scenting my bath with (too flowery!), so I was sniffing a few candidates at the Aura Cacia display in the store. I pulled a boner, tilting the little bottle over while trying to dab some on the back of my hand, and spilling the lavender blend over the paper sack with the bagels in it! D'oh! So I put the small bottle back, and put the bagels in a new, fresh bag. I think a few drops of oil did penetrate to the food, though -- I detected the scent when I was eating the bagels later, at home.
I finally got myself out of the house and back to the Century Ballroom tonight! Once again, it was gratifying to be missed, and several folks asked where I'd been lately. I didn't want to make too much of my cold -- who would want to dance with me if I talked about the creeping crud? I did have fun dancing, with Earl, Gavin, and other regular partners, plus a few new folks. There was a shortage of leads, though! A lot of folks are in Mexico, at the big Hop the Millennium dance camp. I left shortly after eleven. |
