One year ago: A Sunny Walk

Another meeting this morning at work. Chip would like me to evaluate and revive a new production process that was about seventy percent complete a few months ago. The basic concept is a good one: abstract the content from the page and site structure. The only bad part is that the work that was done was directed towards a new site design, and that design was never approved by Chip! So I'm to look around at what we have, figure it out, and estimate the work involved and the cost/benefit to us in finishing it off and starting to use it.

In the meantime, Kellie will try a redesign for the education center, which formerly was my area. There's no chance of getting bored with your job description around here!

Tonight Hallie started a new feature at the Century Ballroom: a drop-in intermediate-advanced dance lesson, before the DJ'd dance. She also shifted the start time for the dance to eight o'clock.

I was pleased by the number of folks who showed up at seven fifteen for the lesson! Considering that Hallie had offered an intermediate-advanced series of lessons last fall on Monday nights, and didn't get enough folks signed up to make it practical (disappointing to me!), the roomfull of folks looked good to me. She told us that each class would be self-contained, not building from week to week.

The moves taught tonight focused on the leads. First was a turn that ended up with the lead's foot in the follow's hand! This needs good balance on the lead's side, and alertness on the follow's side, since it's certainly unexpected! But I think it could be fun.

The second move was a lead's drop, where he wraps his arm around the follow's arm and shoulder, then drops down. It looks like he's falling, but it's really totally controlled. Very impressive!

It was great to be back dancing again. There was a good crowd, with folks arriving throughout the evening. I danced with almost everyone I wanted to, including some folks visiting from Vancouver, BC. Cat Daddy Chris Chapman was the DJ. Earl told us about a new game arcade place on Pine St., that has an emphasis on classic older games. Apparently they have a few new ones, but most are older videos (Galaga, Robotron, Ms. Pacman) and even older pinball machines. I'll have to check it out soon!
