Two years ago: Odds and Ends

Tonight was #BlogIRC night again. It was fun! A few less people than the first time. We discussed a young weblogger that's been trolling for links. I did answer his mail, but since I don't have a general list of logs on my pitas page, I didn't add him to it. I also promised swing dance info to Dan of Brainlog; he's a UW student, so should look into the Swing Kids. All too soon I had to log off, and run outside to wait for Mark and Holly. They were driving me to dance class again.

Tonight we got to the swing portion of swing foxtrot. Turns out the basic pattern is rockstep-step-step, done in four even counts. It's not so easy to change from the familiar, so I kept slipping back into a six-count pattern by mistake!

I asked Mark and Holly to drop me off at the Century Ballroom; it works well for me that way, since I'm not tempted to wimp out and stay home. (I want to dance, but it's not easy to drag myself out of the house, once I'm home.)

It was a busy night there tonight! While the lesson was going on, I sat in the cafe and sipped a large mocha. I chatted with LoviÇa Callisti, Anne Livingstone and and Maren Perry. The Century's third anniversary party will be at the end of February. Oops! That's the same weekend as Potlatch, I think.

I made sure to ask a certain person to dance, whom I suspected of making fun of me (in a gentle, teasing way) on a local email list. He's not one that usually asks me, though we have danced before. I didn't mind the teasing, but wanted to break down any concern in my mind. (oh, the subtleties of a local dance scene!) He's a wonderful dancer; sort of the tai-chi lindy hop style!
