Brewery Lunch
Change is one of mankind's most mysterious creations. The factors that operate to cause it came into play when man produced his first tool. With
it he changed the world forever, and bound himself to the artifacts he
would create in order, always, to make tomorrow better than today.

One year ago: Cold Stupid
Two years ago: Introspection
Jack called me Tuesday evening, and told me to go turn on the TV. Nova was running a show about economists figuring out how to price options, called "The Trillion Dollar Bet." It was really interesting! But it didn't really have too much to do with the sort of investment information we provide on my work site.

I tried to get Jack to tell me his work address today, but I was too transparent. He replied, "Hmmm??? I don't need flowers delivered here thank you! I really mean that." But he wanted my work address, so I'll be getting something on St. Valentine's Day, I'm sure.
I remember last year, Jack seemed to not expect to get anything from me on this holiday, though he went to some trouble to make sure I had flowers and a card. This year I was talking to Chip about this, and he feels the same way. But I really like reciprocating! It's fun for me to think about what Jack would really enjoy getting.
Wednesday afternoon, I went back to the mall where I'd bought the Joseph Schmidt truffles for Jack last year. I was shocked to see that the Everything Chocolate store was closed! I almost got back in my car, thinking furiously about what else would be good to get, when I remembered that the Seattle Heat store was also in Redmond Town Center. I scurried up there and bought a variety of hot stuff -- blood orange vinegar, a spice rub, "Jump up and Kiss Me" hot sauce, a jar of creole marinade with its own injector, and a few other things. I was especially taken with a small bottle of hot sauce on a key chain. I asked the store owner to pack everything up in a box, after I'd removed price tags (and the "50 percent off" tags on a few items). He wrapped it in chili pepper gift wrap, too. (This is written after the fact, so I can reveal what I bought -- Jack already got the package.)

Jack and I have been trying to figure out how to get together this weekend, or if we should try! I'm signed up for a special dance workshop during the day on Saturday and Sunday, and it's Jack's weekend with his daughter H----. Should we meet Saturday morning on his way down to Olympia? Finally we decided to wait and see.
I wrote to Susan of Word Salad about her mentions of James Burke. I do like his work, but the most recent shows he's done, on the Discovery channel, aren't as good as his earlier stuff. I wonder if he ran out of good links? Now he just seems to string things together randomly.
Yesterday was Arthur's last day at work with us in Redmond. Today he flew back to London, to work remotely again. He's the technical analyst on our team. He and Chip got a lot accomplished during his time here, designing, constructing and introducing new features like the Market ChartTour. (I helped by constructing the templates for the tour home page and tour stops.)
So Arthur missed our company lunch outing today, to the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville. This is where we had our first company lunch, back in July! Today we went because one of Chip's college friends, Buck Naked, was visiting us. (His real name is J---, but I've got too many J---s here already, and he does use the Buck Naked alias online.) This time we ate inside. The beef stew I got was very good -- satisfying on a cold, wet day.
