Julius

A style does not go out of style as long as it adapts itself to its period.

Two years ago: Vernal

A year ago, I was talking about ferrets -- I don't think they are such great pets. Two years ago, my sister was doing laundry for me as a Christmas present.

Speaking of sisters, my other sister is moving from Delaware to Switzerland -- a transfer and promotion. She's looking for a way to make calls to the US inexpensively, so she might signing up for a long distance plan for me, and using it herself also.

I was reading Lunesse, and she mentioned Chuck, whom I'd lost track of during a long hiatus. (He used to write "Geek Tragedies" and "a.cappella".) I was glad to find him again! But I haven't caught up on the last few months yet. His designs are always very clean and crisp, though the frames add up to a tiny document porthole in the middle for me.

Anita and Julius, August 1999 -- click for larger versionI haven't been dancing as much as I like to lately -- seasonal affective disorder, perhaps? But tonight I did get out to the Century Ballroom. An online dance buddy is in town -- Julius Yang -- and I wanted to be sure and dance with him tonight. We met one time last summer. We both post on the Jive Junction Discussion forum -- a Southern California oriented swing dance website.

Julius was the first person I saw when I walked up the long flight of stairs to the ballroom -- he was perusing the posters on the wall. Julius is tall, skinny, in his twenties, and Chinese American.

We danced several times, and I introduced him to some other folks, too. This wasn't really needed though. He's gotten over the shyness problem he said he had last summer, and had no trouble asking people to dance even though he didn't know anyone!

We seemed to dance OK together, though he is more of a Hollywood-style dancer and I'm more savoy. Both of us are good at adapting, and enjoy improv, so it worked out. Julius has been taking several dance vacations -- to Boston, New York, and here. Such a trip sounds good to me!

It was on the quiet side for a Wednesday, but there was a reasonable crowd for most of the night. I managed to speak to Theo about the dance class I missed last night, and I'll be able to start next week since they need follows. I stayed until almost midnight!
