One year ago: Packing
Two years ago: Thanks
I left work a bit early tonight, on a mission to get those taxes done! Of course, I could have done them at any time for the last few months, but didn't. Procrastination is my besetting sin, without a doubt!
I knew where the required documents were, or so I thought. But I couldn't find my W2 from StockCharts.com, though I knew I had it. I hunted through all the papers on the kitchen counter, with no success. I was worried -- I'd have to file late and pay a penalty, or hunt all over town for an extension form! Finally I walked the block to where my car was parked, and looked in the back seat, and there it was.
As I was working, I realized I'd need a schedule B. But I misread, and thought I'd need to fill out a schedule D! And that's not included in the standard booklet the IRS had sent me. I tried to download the Sched D from the web, which didn't work well. My printer needs a memory upgrade, and barfs on graphically intensive pages. Finally I looked again, and saw that I needed a Schedule B (I have over 400 bucks in dividends from some stock I own). I could proceed!
I got it done, drove downtown, and enjoyed dropping the envelope into the bin that the postal worker was holding out to cars driving by. I didn't see any costumed bottles of bufferin dancing on the sidewalk this year.
I finished off the evening at the Century Ballroom, which wasn't as crowded as usual. I think a big lindy exchange in San Diego might have had something to do with this. If a lot of folks from Seattle went down, they might have been all danced out tonight. People were probably off doing their taxes, too. I had a good time, but fate dealt me more than my share of partners with body odor issues. This always makes me paranoid about my own aroma! Just like when someone is droning on talking to me, I start thinking, "Oh, no, what if people are being bored by me all over town?"
On the Swingout Northwest Thinktank list, we've been going through an amazing amount of discussion -- about T-shirts! and not the t-shirts for the camp, but the t-shirts that the thinktank members will wear to promote the camp ahead of time. Karen Holt, who is designing the shirts, is very talented, so I'd be content to let her have at it, but people do like to discuss these things.
