![]() Almost a ShutoutThere's only one thing that can kill the movies, and that's education. Sunday, May 7, 2000 I took off from Jack's house a bit earlier than I normally would have. I needed to get back to Seattle, to get my film festival pass taken care of! Today was the first day that the box office was open, for members only. I walked down the hill to the Broadway Performance Hall. I was surprise to see that there was a line! A--- and Doug Ing saw me as they were leaving, and told me that they'd been in line for about two hours! Computer glitches had slowed everthing up. So I hung out in line, gradually getting near the front. I liked having that Palm from work! Chip had shown me the little game of matching squares that he installed, and it's very addictive. Suddenly I noticed an ominous sign posted near the box office window. "Full Series Passes sold out" Oh no! I would be totally bummed if I coulnd't get a pass! And it would be due entirely to my own slackage and lackadaisicalness. I could have sent in my order any time over the winter. What could I do now? I called over the tall blonde volunteer woman who was coordinating things in the lobby. "Are platinum passes sold out, also?" Why, no! They weren't, and she could escort me right back to the office right now, no waiting in line for the important platinum pass holders! Cinema Seattle was eager to take our money. So I sat down at a desk in the office, and wrote a big fat check. It's more than I planned on spending, but it's only my own fault. And it's better than not having a pass at all. I now have a big hunk of metal in my purse, and I'll be able to enter any festival film with no waiting in line. Who knows, maybe I'll be spoiled by the VIP treatment and have to continue getting a platinum pass every year! Still to do: sit down with a schedule and plan out what I want to see. I usually do let my movie friend A--- do a lot of the figuring, but I need to study up on what movies will be playing, where, and when. oo, I'm getting psyched! |
