Three Years

Time is at once the most valuable and the most perishable of all our possessions.

It's been three years since I started writing this journal! On my first anniversary, I talked about how I got started. At two years, I did a time-travel entry, taking snippets from notable or funny moments along the way.

I've been looking around to see what other long-time journallers (or at least those who've been writing more than a year) have done about anniversaries. Some don't take any note of them. This might be because they've moved their journals, or changed the name, or taken other action so that they don't think of their journals as one thing.

Michael Rawdon said, on his first anniversary, "Recently, especially while working on my threads library I realized how useful this thing is as a document to go back and read, as I'd forgotten much of what I did last fall, or, rather, that last fall was when it happened." A journal is really very useful as a memory aid! That's one reason I don't like this "falling behind" habit I've gotten into. Things that I'm struck by or interested in are harder to recall four or five days later.

Kymm just had her fourth anniversary! Unfortunately, she didn't save her entries for the first few months, because she didn't realize that what she was doing was a journal. She thanks the people who have been reading her all that time, and her new readers too. Oh, me too! and I always love getting mail from readers.

I don't see myself stopping this journal anytime soon. I still really enjoy writing it, and the "complete the circuit" motivations I had for starting it still hold. I read and feel connected to other journallers. Writing and posting my own journal gives other people a chance to return the favor, if they want to. It's a place for me to talk about whatever I want! I'm glad that Jack has always been supportive and encouraging here. It would be difficult if he didn't want to be mentioned!
