One year ago: Dancing Again
Two years ago: Journalers Lunch
Three years ago: The Sleepers and the Shadows

No movies for me on Wednesday. Pete and Chip have been in San Francisco since Monday, attending the Java One conference. Kellie was able to stay until six in the office Monday and Tuesday (so our high school intern wouldn't be alone), but Wednesday is choir practice. I agreed to stay. And once I stay until six, I might as well stay later -- the traffic is still bad at that time.

So what did I do on my night off from the film festival? I went to see a movie! I'd been interested in "Return to Me" for a while, but it's not the type of movie that appeals to Jack. "That doesn't interest me," he says dismissively. Hmmm, what about all the movies I see with him, that aren't the ones I'd choose on my own?

Oh, well. Kymm said that the supporting cast was the best part of Return to Me, and I agree. the heroine's grandfather and all his buddies were great, and so was Bonnie Hunt. I'm so glad that she wrote herself a juicy part, and she did a good job at directing the movie, too. The weakest part of the film was the romance between Minnie Driver and David Duchovny -- they just seemed to like each other's looks! There wasn't any evidence of any other strong bond between them. The big revelation at the end seems to be gotten over rather easily, once revealed. I guess Duchovny just needed to think about it overnight! Oh, well, this is a fun movie for a rainy night at home, I guess.

One more time, back at the Cinerama today. I'm not going to the rest of the festival, since either Jack will come down here for a science fiction convention this weekend, or, if he's not feeling up to it, I'll go up to Bellingham.

(IMDB page for this film) Spanish. A ghastly horror/thiller. Take the spooky decor of SE7EN and blend it with elements from "Silence of the Lambs." I truly didn't enjoy this, but I stayed until the (disappointing) ending. My buddy A---- had thought there was some sort of H.P. Lovecraft connection here, but there wasn't. The acting was ok. Not for the squeamish!

What a shame, that this should be my last film of the festival this year! The seven fifteen movies didn't appeal to me, and I was ready to be done with it all. Overall I've been pleased with the quality of this year's festival. I enjoyed most of the films I saw, and only a few were real turnoffs for me.

This year I mean it. I want to get things cleared out a bit at my place, then start having regular movie nights with dinner or potlucks. I'm so fond of my movie friends, and there's no reason why I should lose touch with them for so long between festivals.

There is hardly anyone whose sexual life, if it were broadcast, would not fill the world at large with surprise and horror.
