Clumsy Lovers

A lover without indiscretion is no lover at all. Circumspection and devotion are a contradiction in terms.

Since my car is out of action, I took the bus to Bellingham tonight. I'm glad I left work when I did! The line at the Greyhound station was very long and slow. I don't think there is much concern about speedy customer service there. They should have kiosks where you print your own ticket and slip in the cash.

I didn't feel well on the bus. How uncomfortable do you have to feel, before you head back down the aisle to the restroom? Of course, when I did, the guy who was already in there hadn't followed the driver's instruction to lock the door! So I almost walked in on him, except the toilet is so tiny that you can't open the door if someone is in there.

I got to Bellingham at around eight thirty. Jim Kling was giving a wake for Jack's gall bladder, so I called over to his place to ask Jack to come pick me up. I was hungry by this point, but the spicy food potluck was pretty much over by then. Jack told me that he'd gotten to Jim's, realized that he'd forgotten stuff, went back to his house, then back to Jim's. So he really didn't get to spend that much time at the party!

Because they didn't let Jack take his gall bladder home with him, Jim had created a substitute -- a little slug-like thing made of cherry jello, in a small black coffin made by Julie. Funny! And all the food they had was stuff that Jack was forbidden before his operations: spicy food, chocolate, fat.

I did have a chance to grab a bowlful of chili before the food was all packed up.

We took the crockpots and stuff back to Jack's place, and dropped off his daughter H----. Then we went to downtown Bellingham, to a club where folks were gathering. This place is smoke-free, which is a plus, but the real draw was the band. The Clumsy Lovers are a celtic and folky influenced rock band, popular in the Northwest. We weren't in the best place for clear sound -- in a balcony behind the band -- so I'll forgive some muddiness. But the music was just too loud for me to really enjoy it. They did play fast and with fire! The lead fiddle player was good. There are some sound clips from an older CD on this page, but what I heard was a lot more on the rock side, and less on the folk side.

Jack did some hopping around and dancing, but I was content to watch. I didn't mind being there, though. During the break, he and I walked outside and he smoked a cigar.
