DeclutteringStatus quo, you know, that is Latin for "the mess we're in." Sunday, July 16, 2000
We couldn't get anyone to join us on the raft today, or at least, no one who had a car. We need the second car to shuttle from our take-out place to our put-in place. So instead we decided to do some work on H----'s room. When Jack's older daughter A---- had run off (I think she was around for a few days in April), she'd left all her possesions strewn around the room. There really wasn't anyplace for H--- to put her stuff! So we decided to pack up A----'s things. H---- and I gathered up all of A----'s clothing. The clean stuff we folded up and put in her trunk; the dirty items got piled up to be laundered, a few loads at a time. Trash put into the trash -- old makeup, pens that don't work, random stuff. We actually got some sheets put on the bed! It was easier for H---- to keep on task with me working alongside, I think. When we were losing steam at the end, I went ahead and sprinkled carpet fresh powder on the floor, for H--- to vacuum. The room looked so much better when we were done! I don't think it will stay as neat as it is now, but at least it will be H----'s own clutter, not someone else's. Next, I think we should do some of the same stuff in Jack's room. He doesn't have the laundry or dirty dishes around, but does have much paper around, and things strewn on the floor.
In the evening, Jack and H--- were reading aloud to each other. They are working on an Andre Norton book. I'm not sure that H---- is really into it, but they are making progress. |
