Logjam

The secret of realizing the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment of existence is: to live dangerously!

We planned for Jack and his daughter h---- to come down here this weekend, and take my sister, her boys, and I out on the Green River (of serial killer fame). It's not exactly nearby, but it's in this county. So I was doing some early-morning websurfing to research, and figure out where we'd be going.

Oops! I found a link to a local news story -- there was a big chunk of the river closed due to log jams and unsafe conditions. I wondered if we should go to some other local river. Log jams can be very dangerous, since people can get trapped under the logs and drown!

There was no word back from Jack until I got home from work. "Did you call your sister?" Well, no -- I'd been waiting to hear from him! It turned out that he'd replied with an alternative plan, but the message must have fallen in the bit bucket.

So he told me his plan on the phone, and I spoke to my sister. Would she consider driving up to Bellingham on Saturday morning, taking me with her? That way Jack could take us on a river he was familiar with. Luckily, she was amenable to this change of plan. Then Jack and H---- and I will come back to Seattle afterwards, and go to Vanguard. A lot of driving, but it's doable!
