Two years ago: In Demand
At work, Kellie has gone a bit darker with her hair. Chip hinted around at this for a few minutes. "Is there something different about you today? New shoes, perhaps?" It looks fine, of course.
Ray German sent out his last notify email (for now). He's just not having any fun with his journal these days, he told me. He feels restricted about what he can talk about, without upsetting people in his life. It's a shame because I always enjoyed reading his stuff!

Something funny came across the Portland Swing list, about the upcoming Ken Burns Jazz documentary:
"I don't know how much frottage will be dedicated specifically to swing dancing, but there is definitely a dance presence throughout. "
"Frottage! I thought that was when someone was doing tandem charleston too close!" I replied privately. He meant to say "footage," I guess.
If you search on Frottage, you have an equal chance of getting a page about a fancy interior painting technique, a page on surrealist painter Max Ernst, or the sexual practice of rubbing up against another's body, especially someone in a crowd whom you don't know.

I asked my sister B----, who's living in Geneva Switzerland, about a list of items she wrote for an expatriate website, things she'd wished she known to bring to Switzerland:
Seems like bringing cheese to Switzerland would be like bringing coals to Newcastle! But she replied:
The cheese in Switzerland is good but.... they don't have any nice sharp cheddar cheese. This means that when you go out to a Mexican restaurant, things have a flavor of fondue. It is a little odd to have a cheese quesadilla that tastes like fondue, or have tomato soap with a grilled cheese sandwich that again tastes like fondue.
So maybe my other sister and I will have to send them a care package of sharp cheddar -- Tillamook, Vermont, and so on. Cheese of the month club? (Some cheese reviews)

Jack phoned me from Atlanta tonight. He'd been to a Braves game. They won, after a last-inning scare which made it a bit more interesting. He said the stadium seemed smaller than Safeco Field. It was good to hear his voice!
