There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy. |

Wow, no "year ago" entries for the past three years! What are the odds?
Chip stayed home with a fever yesterday. That really makes for a quiet office, with just Kellie and Pete there with me for most of the day. We are all hoping that we won't get whatever he had. He was back today, feeling better. He told us he watched Ken Burns' Civil War in between snoozes. I asked if it gave him Civil War nightmares, but he said not.
One reason he came back today -- he had an interview with a possible employee again. It must be an unusual interview situation for these folks, since we are in an open office and Chip and the candidate just talk at our conference table in the middle of the room. The rest of us don't usually pipe up in the conversation, but you know we are listening!

Jack was telling me about the fancy hotel he's at in Atlanta, the Marriott Marquis: "The outside of it looks like your generic skyscraper, but the inside looks like that alien spaceship they found the chestburster in in 'Alien'. It is an open atrium all the way to the top with organic looking curving walkways around the edges, and the curves change at certain floors. It has indoor and outdoor fountains, glass elevators, three restraunts and a sportsbar, two swimming pools, a hot tub, a gym, a sauna, a steam bath and I am getting tired just typing all this! Really something." Too bad he's too tired to take advantage of all the facilities.
I was proud of myself tonight -- I got the mail out of my mailbox, and actually threw all the junk in the recycle immediately. I also went through the stack that was sitting on the counter by the sink, sorting out the bills. I opened each envelope and stacked all the IRA statements together. All the Safeway coupon books -- into the trash, except the current one! I didn't stop until that section of counter was visible. So there! (Note that I didn't actually continue and write any checks. Tomorrow. Or maybe I'll bring them to work with me and do it there.)
One thing I was glad to find among the junk -- a mailing from the coordinator for the feeding the homeless men project I've volunteered for before. I'll sign up again, since it's a worthy task that fits with my schedule.
I bought a high-tech microfiber cleaning cloth at the grocery store tonight. It did seem to do a good job! I wiped down the computer screen, the TV screen, and the bed frame. It even worked on the lampshade. Don't quotes in press releases always sound like the fakiest language in the world? "Quotes we doubt ever got quoted." I like the chart on this page (aimed at industrial users) comparing the microfiber to other towel types.
I should have gone dancing -- but I want to get comfortable and do some reading instead. I'll go to dance class tomorrow night.
