After clipping those Safeway coupons on Sunday night, I went that final step and took them to the grocery store and used them yesterday evening. I only cut out the ones I would use, so I felt like I was getting my money's worth. I felt smug and efficient as I cruised through the store, filling my cart with tuna, crackers, sausage, juice, and oatmeal. I don't think I bought a thing that wasn't on sale! The funny part came when I presented the coupons to the cashier -- I don't think she was used to seeing actual paper coupons these days, and it took her a moment to figure out what I was driving at. Yes, I do want to apply all these coupons to my purchase, please!

I took leftover polenta and feta cheese to work for my lunch today, and heated it in the microwave. Dang, that's good stuff! I think the red peppercorns are part of what gives that cheese a very special tangy flavor.
We had lots of Mariners interest in the office this afternoon. Pete and Chip both followed the game on the web, using a Java applet on some sports website. I put a CD in my computer and listened to Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe. I want to get some more G&S operas on CD -- I only have Iolanthe with the dialog (and the dialog is a big part of the fun), and Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado with MacKerras conducting.
I did manage to get a journal entry posted rather early this evening, so I wandered into the living room and turned on the TV. I started watching a movie I hadn't heard of before: A Merry War, based on an George Orwell story called Keep the Aspidistra Flying. It's a tale of a young man who abandons his day job at an advertising agency when his first volume of poetry gets some good reviews. He throws himself into being an "artist" with results that aren't so good. The movie was worth watching, and the period flavor (mid thirties England) was spot on.

I was determined to go dancing tonight. It's been too long since I went out! So when the movie was over, I put on a dancing dress and my new fishnet tights, and walked down the hill to the Century Ballroom.
There was a good crowd there! Hep Jen was DJ'ing. I danced with many of my favorite partners -- Earl, Devin, Jeremy, John, Little Greg, Steve Steiner, Dan Davis, Joe Ross -- plus a few new ones. It's always a good challenge, a reality check, to dance with someone new. They were talking on Yehoodi.com about dancing "on automatic pilot"; dancing with a new partner puts me on my mettle to try and connect with this new person somehow! So the temptation to go on automatic and not pay attention isn't there. Mark gave me a ride home. Normally I don't ask for rides home, but it was late, and I hadn't liked the looks of a corner near my house when I'd walked down the hill. There's a grocery store that's vacant now, so there is less activity there, and more people hanging about for no good reason.
