Love Dogs

In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semihuman. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog.

Tonight there was a live band at the Century Ballroom, for the first time in a long time on a Wednesday. It was the Love Dogs, a band from Boston.

I'd seen them in the summer of 1998, when they played two shows in Seattle, at the Showbox and at the Century. I'd enjoyed them then. They are what I'd call a jump blues band, with eight members. Eduato Scheer fronts the band and does most of the singing.

The place wasn't jam-packed, but there was a good crowd. I danced a few times with Titus, whom I'd met up at the Greenwood dance. I was suprised that there wasn't more applause -- I think people liked the music, but they are out of the habit of clapping enthusiastically.

I had the Love Dogs' first CD, I'm Yo Dog, from a few years ago -- it has one of my favorite songs on it: "Big and Hot"! Tonight I bought their two most recent CDs, Heavy Petting and New Tricks.

I really enjoyed dancing to their music! The only downside was that they played some medleys that were too long for me (and some others). But the sound was lively and fun, so we kept dancing.
