Election Day

The abjection of our political situation is the only true challenge today. Only facing up to this situation in all its desperation can help us get out of it.

I voted first thing this morning! I had to wait at home for a few minutes past the time I normally leave, then walked the few blocks to the apartment building where the polling place is. This is the same building where my brother lives, but I didn't see him there. It was a few minutes before seven, but they'd already opened the polls.

We use an SAT-style color-in-the-circles ballot now in Seattle. I had my The Stranger cheat sheet with me, so didn't have much trouble making up my mind. I think I did vote for a few tax proposals that the alternative paper was against, but other than that it was the straight Stranger ticket.

After work, I came home and did web stuff, listening to NPR the while. I kept refreshing their web site, which had a color-coded map on it. I didn't have much hope for Gore. Then wow! The race was flip-flopping all night! I went to sleep at my normal time, but kept the radio on. I didn't wake up when any bulletins came on, though.

I really won't be happy with Bush, if he wins. And the Washington senatorial race is too close to call, but it would be great if Maria Cantwell beats Skeletor.
