SONW Meeting

The advantage of doing one's praising for oneself is that one can lay it on so thick and exactly in the right places.

I was worried about dire weather predictions. Normally this wouldn't have mattered, but I had a meeting to go to this afternoon, so I planned on getting up early. I woke up at eight, read email, showered, dressed, and left. Jack slept late, but did crack an eye open to say goodbye.

Of course, the roads were fine, though the pavement was cold. (There's a gadget on my new car that tells me the ambient temperature at road level.) There were dustings of snow, especially through the pass south of Bellingham, but otherwise nothing to worry about. I got back to Seattle so early that I had time to get breakfast at the cafe at Larry's Market. The Eggs Benedict eggs seemed a bit undercooked, but I ate them anyway. Then I toured the grocery store, buying things that caught my fancy or would make good Christmas gifts. I even had time to walk across the parking lot and visit a "Sample sale" store. This place purported to have very good prices on wholesale samples of gift items, books, and toys. I don't think they were actually such low prices, but I did find a few things for gifts.

It was only a few blocks to Deb's house, where we were having our second SONW meeting. This time I'd gotten the hint about the people who should arrive at twelve (a select group), those who should arrive at one (I was in this cohort), and a few who only needed to come at two o'clock. I brought some cookies inside with me -- molasses spice, and white chocolate chip. From Larry's, so they were gooood!

The people who were ahead of me on the agenda weren't there yet, so I got to talk right away. At least I'd made an attempt to get a quote from a printer yesterday, but no response yet. The news about Jack's laptop and the printer he found went over well. Everything else that was discussed at the meeting gave me ideas for stuff that should appear in the newsletter -- what the nightly events will be, want ads, jokes, messages from the dorm parents, and so on.

Turned out it was Carla's birthday today. A cake with candles was brought in, and we sang "Happy Birthday." This is one of the few rituals left in modern life! We were done on time, amazingly.

At home, I buckled down and started finalizing the Publisher files I'll use for this project. I asked Shai for a graphic for the masthead, and downloaded a version of the font that Karen uses for headlines.

I went to the Century tonight, after slacking for too long. (I don't think of dancing as work, not at all. But once at home, it's tough to get myself out of the house again!) I wore a new outfit, dark red two piece, the top a fitted blouse untucked, the skirt on the slim side, with beaded fringe at the hem. I like the dark irridescent beads!

But when everyone compliments you on your appearance, you start to wonder. "Hey, what's wrong with the way I look normally?"

I danced with one Hollywood partner, a young man who tends to get wild (alcohol) as the night goes on. The song was a bit fast. He claimed he could switch to savoy style. Hmmm. What he did wasn't like much savoy style I've done, it was even wilder than his Hollywood styling!
