Miss Congeniality

We ascribe beauty to that which is simple; which has no superfluous parts; which exactly answers its end; which stands related to all things; which is the mean of many extremes. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Because there was bad traffic by the time I was able to leave work, I decided to catch a movie. I'm really behind on current releases! And Jack has a rather limited spectrum of movies that interest him. So seeing films on my own is a good thing.

I still enjoy going to Redmond Towne Center, the mock-downtown mall. They've put bins of large purple umbrellas in strategic spots on the walkways, to compensate for Pacific Northwest rain. It's the honor system -- I wonder how many folks walk off with them? The only flaw in the shopping center is the lack of food places. There are only a few fast food spots, and a few good restaurants. So I dashed into Cow Chip Cookies and got a big chocolate chip cookie for dinner (a "bull chip," in fact).

Miss Congeniality was a good-humored comedy. I didn't laugh a lot, but it was pleasant. I felt it should have had a less-explicit romantic finish, since Bullock's cop buddy was attracted to her, but should have felt more awkward about it.

I got cash from the ATM because it was my bank's brand (no fee!), then wandered down to Borders. That cash must have been burning a hole in my purse, since I indulged myself by purchasing Eloisa James' Midnight Pleasures in hardback, and Mary Balogh's latest in hardback also. I don't know what came over me! Plus, I bought a reissue of Mary Jo Putney's first novel, The Diabolical Baron, and I think I already have it!

Lane Bryant was on the way back to the car, so I stopped in. At least here I didn't buy more red underwear for Valentines day, but stuck to the 70-percent-off clearance-price racks. This led to some very good deals! I bought three skirts, including one with sequins on it, and a black dress.

I was home in time for Ken Burns' Jazz, the one about the war years. My new loveseat makes watching TV too tempting, it's so comfortable
