Vanguard
Parents: persons who spend half their time worrying how a child will turn out, and the rest of the time wondering when a child will turn in.

I was at my dance workshop all day. I'll give a more detailed description tomorrow. It was held at the Oddfellows Lodge in Ballard, which was Jessamyn's former home. I wish I'd made it over there some time when she was holding monthly "Oddstock" parties!

Jack arrived after I got home, with both daughters. A---- and H--- would spend the evening here while Jack and I went to Vanguard.
I mentioned to Jack that perhaps he could look at my stereo and DVD player, and see if we could get them to cooperate. I'd tried to get the DVD player hooked up previously, but with no success. Jack wanted to get started on this right away. I should have said no. We didn't really have enough time for a job that is stressful under the best conditions.
Jack wanted to rearrange all the wires. This was difficult, because they go behind the back of the large armoir in which I keep all my home theater stuff. I went to Fred Meyer for some needed cables, but they are sold out. A---- accompanied me since she had a CD gift certificate from that store.
A----- started bugging her dad about going to an NA meeting. Jack, understandably, didn't want her to leave the apartment. A big blowup with yelling. A--- really knows how to create a scene!
I ordered pizza for the girls. Jack did succeed in getting the DVD player working. The only drawback is that until I get those needed cables, I'll be using the TV's own sound for cable and VCR, and the tuner and stereo for DVDs and laser discs. It also involves choosing a different input for the TV. Not the seamless experience one would wish, but I can manage it.

Jack and I left for the pre-vanguard Potlatch potluck meeting. The fact that I wanted to attend this before Vanguard was one of the extra pressure factors that made rewiring the stereo so stressful. Jane wondered if I want to do hospitality, or would I rather do something else. I think this might mean that someone else wants to do it! I'll need to talk to Jane about this.
Vanguard was fun, but we didn't stay late, due to Jack's concern about the girls. We sent both girls back to sleep in my bed, so I could sleep with Jack in the loveseat recliner.
