I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection.

Rewiring

One year ago: Norwescon III

I started the night sleeping beside Jack in the loveseat recliner, but went and slept in my bed after four o'clock or so. In the morning, I reminded Jack about the poor soul in Memento who would relive waking in the night and finding his wife gone from the bed... but Jack thankfully hadn't had any horrible fears about what might have happened to me.

Jack's project for the morning was to finish his "rewire Anita's stereo" task of last month. I'd bought the required cables a few weeks ago and had them waiting for him. I stood at the end of the big armoire and fished the cables with a coat-hanger wire, then fed them in to the other compartment when requested. I'm pleased because I can now listen to cable sound through my good speakers, instead of the not-so-good tv speakers. Jack is pleased with the whole thing because it's hooked up in a way that makes sense to him now, though he still criticized my speaker wires. "That's something that can really make a difference in the sound! And are you sure you've got the correct speakers in the front and the back? Could you have mixed up the pairs?" Sheesh!

He took off for home shortly after noon. It was so nice having him here!

In the afternoon, I went to Jane and Vonda's house for the next Potlatch committee meeting. Things are shaping up! We have two hotel possibilities, and a few of us will visit both places with Suzle. Both hotels have positive and negative points. Denys gave a treasurer's report. Still no one in charge of programming.

Jack called this evening. He'd gotten a call at home; his ex-wife and H---, the daughter that lives with her, had had a blow up. I think part of the problem is that H--- doesn't like spending so much time at her mom's boyfriend's place. For a while there this weekend, H---- was missing (not where she said she'd be) and neither parent knew where she was! After going through the older daughter running away multiple times, Jack was worried when he heard about that! But now she's found. There were already plans for H---- to spend the summer with Jack (she's done this the last few years), and probably live with him next school year, but now it seemed best to all sides if she came to live with Jack immediately.

So things seem sorted now, and Jack will drive down to Olympia tomorrow after work and get H---. He's glad to have her, but the whole thing is stressful for him, poor guy! And I don't know how this will change what will happen with Jack moving to Seattle.
