One year ago: Big Time Pizza
Two years ago: Log Cabin
Three years ago: Teamwork
When I drove up to Bellingham yesterday, I'd planned on only
staying one night. But when Jack said that H---- would start
at her new school on Friday, I suggested that I could stick
around today and help her with stuff. Such step-motherly tasks!
Once again we went through A----'s possesions, laundering her nasty unwashed clothing and packing it up. Since she left
this most recent time from her mom's house without planning the
escape, she didn't take much with her. Probably a lot of these
clothes don't fit A----- anymore, but it seemed better to store
them for her, only throwing away the items that were obviously
unwearable by anybody, ripped or stained. H---- did most of the
work of washing and drying, but I helped pick up and sort, and
my working with her kept her on task, I think. (I know working
with someone helps me keep working on things.)
While we were working, I had H---- write down a short list of
things she needed to make the room comfortable and functional for her.
We went out to K-mart and got her a set of house keys (duping the
ones I had made for myself a few weeks ago), plus a small desk lamp
and some school supplies.

When Jack got home, we moved the plastic bins of A----'s stuff out to the garage, then went to the science fiction club meeting at a teriyaki place downtown. I like the food there, especially the garlic steak bowl. Somehow the combination of the rice, steak, chopped tomatoes and teriyaki sauce, topped with parmesan cheese, is very tasty!
One of the good ideas the club has started is a book box where folks can take what they want and leave the books they no longer need. (Did I come up with this notion? I can't remember!) When I did some clearing a few weeks ago, Jack had taken the books with SF content, and a bunch of science fiction magazines dating back to the eighties, and had added them to the box with my permission. So people had a lot of books to go through during the meeting. I encouraged them to try the magazines -- I don't think people read enough short stories these days.
After the meeting, Jack, H---- and I stopped at a local drive-in for root-beer floats. What a nice treat!
