It's one of the tragic ironies of the theatre that only one man in it can count on steady work - the night watchman.

Two Knocks

Two years ago: Mr. Brown
Three years ago: Missed a Meeting

I ate english muffins with Jack this morning, then took off around noon. I particularly wanted to go dancing tonight, since it was a special night at the Century Ballroom.

The occasion was the last performance of the latest show from Swing This!, the Century dance group. It was a superb show!

I was sitting near my buddy Earl, who had brought a book about routers (the woodworking tool, not the internet equipment) and was reading it before the show started. There was a good crowd, but I was able to see alright. I was near the side wall, so when the show began, I just stood up.

The show was called "Two Knocks and a Whistle," which was the signal given when the nightclub depicted in the show opened up each night. It was a very cute act, very funny and with lots of good dancing and variety. Each person had a good part, from Hallie as the nightclub owner, to Lovica as an itinerant photographer, to Maren and Julie as the two waitresses.

After the show, Hallie announced that this was the last performance of the group. I was surprised and saddened! What a shame it can't continue, move on to a bigger venue, or something. But some of the group members are leaving town, others are going back to school. I'm sure Hallie will come up with something new, and I'm glad I got to see them while they were around!

This was the first time I've been to the Century since the balcony opened a few weeks ago. Hallie had a staircase constructed inside the ballroom, and it looks great! Up till now, they used the balcony for storage, but now it's a useful part of the ballroom.

I talked with Joe Ross about the possibility of him djing for Jack's and my wedding. He'd be glad! and could do a lesson.

I didn't stay too late at the dance, since a good portion of the songs didn't please me. But it was grand to see such a crowd there! (But we need to practice our floorcraft skills -- too much bumping and kicking.) Every Sunday evening will be all ages now. It will be interesting to see how that works out.
