It takes a kind of shabby arrogance to survive in our time, and a fairly romantic nature to want to.

I took things easy today, since I was feeling fragile (my period started).
I decided to treat myself to watching Pride and Prejudice, complete!
It was very relaxing to just let that video wash over me. But I wish my
laser disc player would automatically switch sides; as it is, I had
to get up every hour and turn the disc over.
I don't know exactly what is so pleasing about this production, but
I really do like it. The cast is good, the script is very fine, and
the production values are pure eye-candy. The Regency setting is
one of my favorites, and I've always enjoyed Jane Austen. I should
get out the other Austen videos I have and watch them, too! But
while the older BBC versions of Mansfield Park and Sense and Sensibility
are ok, they don't have the same fascination for me.

I decided to do this month's design in Shabby Chic style, after
catching that show a few times. What a sweet racket that designer
has lucked into! The home decoration concept of old, rustic furniture
and soft floral prints has been around a while (Laura Ashley, much?),
but Rachel Ashwell has brought it to the foreground and had a lot of marketing
success.
I sent email to Jack -- he hasn't been reading his email, and I was testing
to see if that was still the case. I guess it is!
