Blog Tracking

Of all the diversions of life, there is none so proper to fill up its empty spaces as the reading of useful and entertaining authors.

One year ago: Greenwood Dance

I like waking up early, around the time Jack's daughter H---- is getting up. I stay in bed and listen to NPR on my headphone until she's done in the bathroom, since I don't want to get in her way or impede her getting off to school on time. Then I head out to the computers, putting on my velour pants and a pair of socks on the way (I already have a t-shirt on, this isn't a topless outfit). Jack sleeps later, and he takes a long time to get going in the morning, anyway.

The problem is this time of websurfing and stuff takes too long!

Today was the day that Dave Winer changed the way Weblogs.com keeps track of updated weblogs. Now you have to ping the server and let it know when you've updated, instead of his machine checking the vast number of weblogs registered there. Weblog buddy Dan Sanderson took advantage of the chance to change the name of his blog tracking service to something more obvious -- Blogtracker, duh!

In place of my normal web stuff, I tried to readjust the list of weblogs I wanted to view. I think I clicked the wrong link, since I ended up with no logs marked "view." So, there was nothing to be done but to page through about a zillion logs and re-find the ones I wanted to see. This will get me back in the habit of reading more weblogs -- I had let some slip away since being laid off last spring.

I decided that I wanted to watch my new DVD set of Pride and Prejudice, so figured out how to get Jack's laptop computer back in the DVD-playing mode. This movie/mini-series caught H---'s attention, too! So we ended watching the first half of it or so. It's almost six hours long, so too long for one evening's watching when folks have to get up in the morning. I do enjoy it, though. No wonder there's a whole discussion board dedicated to the subject! (Note the graphic at the top of this page, with Mr. Darcy swimming in the water!)
