I got up fairly early, and left the house after Jack and his daughter A---- were awake. I knew that being there would only irritate me; there's no one plucks my nerves like she does. Jack had called and found out exactly when the hearing was supposed to happen -- not till one thirty.

Jack called me at my Capitol Hill place around the time the hearing was supposed to start. A---- had taken off after a fight, and he was feeling very bad. He always thinks there's something he could have done better, but I disagree. She's not in control of herself, or committed to her recovery; her temper has always been very bad and she goes off into a tantrum at the drop of a hat.
