CommitteePerhaps there is only one cardinal sin: impatience. Because of impatience we were driven out of Paradise, because of impatience we cannot return. Tuesday, December 03, 2002 I ran an errand to the bank this morning. We've been buying prepaid "credit" cards this year for plane tickets purchased online, paying for webhosting, and for Jack to use on his trip to Michigan. It's not a bad deal, though you can't get your money out again without spending it (or pay a fee for a cash advance at an ATM?), and you can't refill the same card but must buy another one. The fee is four bucks at Key Bank, so it's worth it to put in a substantial chunk of money. They market these as a gift idea, though, which doesn't make sense to me -- the fee is too big a percentage of a fifty-dollar card. While I was waiting, I listened to an elderly man sorting out with another bank guy about starting a new account, and what would be the most expeditious way to send money to his son who lives in a remote location in southern Oregon. Back home, I searched out ticket options for Jack to come visit at the end of this month. The Monday before Christmas is significantly cheaper than the few days before that -- I guess fewer people want to travel on the twenty third of December if they can possibly travel sooner. There are no cheap non-stop flights from Detroit at this time. Jack made the final call and I bought the tickets online. I can't wait to see him! and I really want to have almost all of the moving stuff done before he gets here. I made one gesture towards getting the moving stuff done by packing a box full of videos, then heated up some burritos for dinner. Doing a mass cooking-and-freezing of burritos last June was a project that worked very well for us!
The meeting for Swingout Northwest was held in a basement meeting room in a cool old art-deco style apartment building on low-to-middle Queen Anne (not really the top of Queen Anne Hill, and not in lower Queen Anne). I think we had about twenty people at the peak. Lots of discussion on getting more folks to sign up -- previous years sold out without problem (as far as I knew) but conditions are different this time! So there's still room, if you are a lindy hopper, come on! You'll love it! I had to wait quite a while before it was my turn. I needed to give the lowdown on what the daily newszine is for, and find out who has the various bits of information I'll be plugging into each day's issue ahead of time. I think all my questions were answered. I missed 24! I could have set the vcr to record it, but didn't. Instead I'll try to catch it on a rerun later this week. |
